Rotary Global History Day was created, by RGHF, to bring attention to the
vital role that history plays in preserving Rotary. RGHF preserves history
to help ensure the future growth of Rotary.

Each month RGHF will select an example of Rotary History, found on the
internet. This month we feature Wagga Wagga, district 9700

These were turbulent times. The U.S. share market collapsed on 'Black
Tuesday' 26th October, 1929, precipitating the Great Depression. The club,
under the Presidency of Harry Mitchelmore, who was also a town alderman, was
heavily involved in a project to resettle homeless people in Gumly Gumly and
North Wagga Wagga.

In another decade the world was upset by the great recession in business
relations in many countries and especially in the U. S. Men seemed to lose
faith in themselves. The stock market crashed, factories closed down,
unemployment was present everywhere. Many organizations in the United States
lost heavily in member ship. It is pleasing to note that Rotary had a
remarkably small loss. Throughout the world Rotary clubs proved their value
as morale sustaining centers. Their meetings were fellowship spots where
harassed business men could give each other new courage. Paul P. Harris, My
Road to Rotary, 1947, page 254
