Vocational
Service Opportunities and Possibilities.
I urge everyone
to honour Rotary and to honour your Vocation. If you had the opportunity to
help reduce unemployment, stimulate the local economy, or inspire young people
toward successful, productive careers - all while applying and developing
your own vocational skills - would you jump at the chance?
As a Rotarian driven by the ideal of service, you hold the power to effect
that sort of meaningful, positive change in your community through Vocational
Service. According to United Nations figures, we live in an era in which one
out of 10 people of working age can't find a job that pays a decent wage.
In the schools, many young people have no understanding of how education affects
their chances for success in the workforce. Your Vocational Service efforts
can play a vital role in improving the quality of life for those hard-working
members of the community who need the sort of direction and expertise that
you can provide.
By participating in any of a number of Vocational Service activities you can
turn your experience into an invaluable resource for others. Many Clubs have
embraced projects such as
- Erecting a
billboard showing The 4-Way Test to the public.
- Pride of Workmanship
Awards
- Debate the
4-Way Test
- Young Achievement
Australia
- Mock Interviews
- Apprenticeship
Exchange
- Career Market
- Industrial
visits
- Vocational
Excellence Awards
- Work Experience.
- TAFE Awards
or similar.
- Participate
in CPR2000 awareness or become a CPR Peer Trainer.
- Apprenticeship
Awards.
- Courtesy Awards.
- Mentoring
- Operation Livewire
- Literacy and
Numeracy including overseas through Matching Grants.
- Vocational
and Recreational Fellowships
- Rotary volunteers
- Jobs for the
disabled
I trust that
you will do all you can to enhance the true spirit of Rotary through your
Vocational Service this month and throughout your Rotary career.
Your Rotary Friend

Rotarian
in Action
Past President
Sel Pfeffer and Lorna, of the Rotary Club of Boonah, have chosen to include
The Rotary Foundation in their Estate Plans thus making them eligible for
Bequest Society Membership, major gift at level 1. It is because of gifts
like Sel and Lorna's that The Rotary Foundation is further able to carry out
a wide array of humanitarian programs throughout the world to:
* Improve living conditions for needy families.
* Increase food production and water programs.
* Wider availability of immunization and medical treatment for the sick and
disabled.
* New Channels for the flow of International understanding, and brighter hopes
for Peace.
* It is our hope that this new Society of Friends will be changing lives through
a legacy of Hope.
Thank you Sel and Lorna for your significant commitment to making the world
a better place for all.
